In an effort to decrease workplace accidents and protect workers on the job, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) developed guidelines for high visibility clothing worn by workers, and classified into 3 groups.
Class 1: includes guidelines for those working in traffic conditions who require reflective material to be worn at all times.
Class 2: includes specifications for apparel worn by survey crews, baggage handlers, railroad workers, as well as crossing guards.
Class 3: includes apparel specifications for construction workers, emergency service personnel, and construction workers.
