How Does Search Engine Ranking Impact Click-Through-Rate?

It stands to reason that the higher your website appears in search engine results, the more visitors will click through to your site. Most business owners realise that being highly visible in the SERPs (search engine results pages) is now more important than ever, since the vast sea of content out there on the world wide web is constantly increasing at a breathtaking rate.

This infographic gives an at-a-glance overview of how hitting the top 5 results on page one of Google can significantly increase your traffic flow. For example, position 1 will earn you an estimated 35.48% click-through-rate to your website, whereas position 10 will give you a click-through-rate (CTR) of around just 2.7%. Clearly, Page 2 and beyond won’t really cut it if you want to increase your traffic share.

The article that accompanies the infographic discusses why CTR is such an important metric to measure. It makes the point that, although ranking position is obviously hugely important, there are several other factors to consider too if you want to improve your click-through-rate. These include things like an engaging and persuasive meta-description, a clear call-to-action, and a highly-relevant, narrowly-targeted focus keyword in the meta-title and meta-description.
